[ The Faithful & Grateful Sons of Victoria ] Good day Sirs, Ma'ams & fellow Sons of Victoria :) [The Situation] It has been confirmed by MOE that Victoria Junior College has submitted a proposal to establish a 6 year IP programme independently, disregarding Victoria School. As concerned Victorians, it is natural to be upset and hurt by the news. This move potentially has many consequences for VS. The following are some of the implications and consequences. [The Impact] 1) The proposed move by VJ will split the Victorian family as it will result in 2 'affiliated' schools competing academically, as well as in other domains such as sports/games etc. 2) This will, in the long run, impact VS as the 2 institutions are within close proximity, sharing the same brand name 'Victoria'. VS, without the lure of IP at the moment will be at a disadvantage when competing for male PSLE leavers with VJC. While VS strongly believes that an all-round and holistic education is the way to go, practical considerations still require her to continue to recruit a number of PSLE leavers of a certain calibre, which she has been doing well consistently over the years. It will, for reasons explained, be made a lot more difficult with VJC competing for that same 'pool' of top talent. 3) Over the last 25 years we have believed that we belong to a family sharing the name, badge, colours, motto, anthem, heritage, pride and history of Victoria. The 6 year co-ed plan proposed by VJC so suddenly has indeed disillusioned and saddened the vast majority of the Victorian alumni, as well as current students of both institutions. The faith and belief shown by educators go a long way towards building confidence, achieving success, instilling pride, and forging long lasting bonds, ties, camaraderie & etc. We therefore believe that VS, with a proven track record over the years of good academic performance and solid holistic education, ought to be shared partners in this human enterprise or journey in education which VJC has proposed for itself. [The Voice] As such, we believe that VS can be a part of this 6 year programme proposed by VJC without compromising her 133 years of heritage if other options can be considered and discussed at length with sincerity, humility and a genuine concern for a meaningful, all-rounded education. It will not only benefit students of the two institutions, but also the nation. If you sincerely believe in this cause and wish to support this, please sign the petition. Victorians never fail to rise up to meet any challenge. Right now, we have to stand united and make our voices heard. Join us in our common cause and belief, as many generations of VS unite as ONE Victoria. Every man counts, so let's rise up and guard our turf. |
